A good pair of shoes can be a staple in your wardrobe for many years to come, and eco-conscious brand Alohas has embraced this mentality.
Founded in 2015 by Alejandro Porras, the footwear company focuses on well-made, timeless and versatile styles that you want to – and can – wear for a long time. The brand attaches great importance to ensuring that every purchase is a good investment for the buyer.
The shoes are not only durable, but are also manufactured with environmental friendliness and sustainability in mind.
To avoid the accumulation of stock, Porras has developed a “hybrid [distribution] model that combines both production on demand and in stock”. For new models, only what is to be sold is produced,” explains Porras. (The downside of this is that delivery is delayed by up to a month and a half). In the meantime, sales are closely monitored so that the best-selling models are in stock and can be shipped immediately.
Since many Alohas shoes are made to order and there is no risk of overproduction, the company is able to offer an impressive selection, especially for a brand that is only eight years young. Even when choosing the shoes for the test, it was difficult to narrow down the selection because there were so many beautiful options.
Every time I wear the West Cape boots, I have the feeling that they enhance my outfit immensely. The brown croco embossed leather looks classy and feels expensive, while the shape of the boot has a modern twist with a definite 70s influence. With a heel of just under 3 inches, the boot is easy to walk in, but I probably wouldn’t wear it for long days. If you’re wavering between sizes, I’d recommend going down a size rather than up a size – I wear a size 7.5-8 and went for the size 8, but I think a size smaller would have fitted me even better.
There’s so much to love about these classy mules. The front of the shoe features a wide leather strap and a square sole that’s so popular right now. However, the real party is in the back, where a 3.3-inch heel offers an unexpected, split pyramid shape. I’ve gotten so many compliments on these shoes. The white I opted for is out of stock, but there is still a chocolate brown color available.
These are the perfect sandals for the transitional season, as the shearling lining keeps your feet just warm enough when paired with cozy socks. I can also see myself wearing them in spring when the temperatures are just right for sandals with jeans and a sweater! As with the Harper model, I find that the molded footbed of the marshmallow leather sandals provides excellent arch support, and I like that the heel strap is fully adjustable. The buckle on the heel strap doesn’t pinch or pinch, which was my biggest concern when choosing this style.
These pumps are a dream come true for people like me who don’t wear sky-high heels but still like to make a fashion statement with their shoes. The toe area doesn’t put as much pressure on my feet as I was expecting, and I love that the height is still enough for a night out. When I tried on the Cinderella pumps with a floor-length dress, I noticed that the crystals could get caught in the fabric of the dress. So I wouldn’t wear them with a sheer maxi dress – otherwise, this is a perfectly danceable shoe for a wedding or evening event! There are also many other colors, both with and without the crystals.
Alohas is not the best place to make last-minute purchases. Production times for certain models can be up to a month and a half if they are sold on demand. However, the models that are in stock (the best-selling models) are delivered within a week of purchase.
The bespoke styles from Alohas are worth the wait. After looking at several models, we realized that the knee-high boots and women’s shoes are a first-class investment. Each pair is well-made, goes with a variety of outfits and has a classic design that will always be on-trend. Plus, we can’t emphasize enough how much we appreciate the brand’s commitment to eco-friendliness, which makes us feel even better about wearing Alohas shoes.
